Public Intelligence Library
Every public work of The Observatory — readings, context, method, reference and actors — ready to find, cite and reuse.
Every public work of The Observatory, in one searchable place: the governed readings served today, the contextual readings of each market, the method and reference that govern them, and the organisations they observe. Each entry states what it is, what it covers and when it is from, and cites it in the form its nature allows. The source page remains authoritative — this library describes it, never replaces it.
Public tables and prepared capsules may be reused free of charge, including commercially, under our Terms. Free reuse, including commercial republication, under The Observatory’s Terms. Retain attribution, source link, scope and date. See the citation and reuse standards. Observed by The Observatory — not approved or endorsed by it.
Find, cite and reuse Observatory intelligence.
Search across published evidence, context and reference works. Narrow the library by market or work type, open the original source, cite a work in the format you need, or build a selection to export for research.

- AI Behavior Intelligence
How AI and search systems rank, cite and frame brands — observed across defined surfaces and windows, beyond the ranking alone.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- AI-Shaped Search
AI-shaped search is the ecosystem of answer-generating surfaces — AI Overviews, LLM answers, source panels — through which brands are now discovered and compared.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Answer Surfaces
The answer surfaces covered in Observatory public readings: AI Overviews, large-language-model answers, the organic surface, and source panels — each read separately, never blended.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Attestation Standard
Scope, Basis, Window, Source and Limitation tie an Observatory reading to its evidence and bounds. Attestation supports traceability, not independent assurance.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Benchmark Governance
Why method stability matters: market-level rules, version context, and the distinction between methodological changes and observed movement.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Business Market vs Positioning Surface
The real business market and the AI positioning surface are different. Observatory public readings describe the positioning surface within a defined scope and window, not the business market.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Canonical Glossary
Stable definitions for AI-search market reading: answer surfaces, semantic authority, signal styles, citation surface, Market Authority Score, and more.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Citation Surface & Source Share
AI citation share: which actors and sources AI answers cite, on a defined surface and window. Citation, opening and recommendation are read separately, and none is rank.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Deep Narrative Capture (DNC)
The governed narrative-reading layer: how clearly, credibly, and consistently an actor is framed in AI interpretation. An overlay, never folded into the score.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Market Authority Score (MAS)
A governed, multi-signal composite reading of observed authority on AI/search surfaces — built from presence, position, citation, source, authority, and surface signals.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Market-Centric vs Client-Centric
Public Observatory readings are market-centric. Private client-centric diagnostics are never published and never used as source evidence for public market readings.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Official vs Narrative Layer
The Observatory separates the official measured layer from the narrative reading layer. The two can clarify each other but are never blended into a single signal.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Public Reading Boundaries
What an Observatory reading does — and does not — claim. Observed positioning on defined surfaces within a stated scope and window, never business leadership.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Ranking vs Behavior
A ranking is one public expression of AI behavior, not the whole truth. How to read an AI market ranking — what it shows, and what it deliberately does not claim.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Semantic Authority
Being treated by AI systems as a central reference for a market — a source-of-truth — within a defined surface and window. Distinct from presence and from market leadership.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Signal Styles
Beyond present-or-absent and rank: the role AI systems assign to an actor when framing it — opening, benchmark, curated, platform, example, or secondary mention.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Surface Competitors
Media, platforms, and aggregators can compete for visibility, citation, and framing on an answer surface without being commercial operators in the underlying market.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Surface Divergence
Surface Divergence is an observed difference between specified surfaces or models. Cross-surface difference is distinct from change over time.

- The Observatory — Master Reference
Canonical reference defining The Observatory, AAI Kernel as its governed intelligence source layer, public reading boundaries, LLM-use rules, and the Reference Library used across Observatory public readings.
Last reviewed 3 June 2026
- Visibility vs Authority
Appearing on an answer surface is not the same as being treated as a reference. How The Observatory separates visibility, citation, and semantic authority.

How each kind of work is cited
- Measured readings — rankings and Query Spotlight
- Governed measured reading. Cite it with its market, surface and observed window. The published metric table is available as data.csv and the complete record as citation.txt.
- Narrative readings — DNC Lens and Model Watch
- Governed narrative reading. Model statements are recorded verbatim and fact-checked; no metric table exists, so no CSV is offered. The complete record is available as citation.txt.
- Context, method and reference
- Editorial and contextual work. Cite it as context; for a factual or ranking claim, cite the dated governed readings it links to.
- Actor records
- Living record. Cite it with the date you retrieved it. For a ranking or factual claim, cite the dated evidence the record links to — never the record in its place.
Dates mean what they say: Observed is the window the surface was read; Published is when a reading went public; Text revision is when the exact accepted text first existed; Last reviewed is the review date a page declares. No digital object identifier is assigned; cite the canonical address.
